Former President Jimmy Carter said Monday night that he voted for Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton.
Carter and Sanders appeared at the Carter Center in Atlanta Monday night, according to the Associated Press. After Sanders delivered remarks that mirrored his campaign speeches from the Democratic primary, Carter told the audience, “Y’all see why I voted for him?”
That suggests Carter voted for Sanders over Clinton in the Democratic primary in Georgia, a state Hillary Clinton won easily during the primary season.
The AP added that Carter “never had a cozy relationship” with the Clintons, but it did note that Carter had said he planned to vote for Clinton over Donald Trump in the general election.
Carter’s admission is just the latest evidence that many Democrats weren’t happy with Clinton, which seemed to have hurt her in the general election against Trump. In recent days, however, Clinton has again blamed her loss on Russian influence in the election, and opposition to having a woman president.
