Man disguises pet turtle as hamburger to get through airport security

Warning to pet-owners: do not try to smuggle your animals through airport security by disguising them as your lunch. According to the South China Morning Post, a man with the surname Li tried to board a China Southern Airlines flight to Beijing out of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport with his pet turtle on July 29.

This wasn’t just any pet turtle, though. It was a turtle hidden inside a KFC hamburger container between two slices of bread.

The turtle couldn’t get beyond the X-ray screening machine, though. According to the South China Morning Post, staff at the airport noticed “protrusions” sticking out of the KFC burger packed in Li’s bag and asked to inspect the luggage.

“There’s no turtle in there, just a hamburger.” Li responded. “There’s nothing special to see inside,” he added. However, the truth was discovered when the turtle’s bun-clothes were pulled off upon an inspection of Li’s bags.

So though Li’s plan ultimately failed, he gets an A for effort and creativity.
