On the eve of New York’s primary, Donald Trump accidentally referred to 9/11 as 7-11.
“I wrote this out, and it’s very close to my heart,” he said at a rally in Buffalo on Monday night. “Because I was down there and I watched our police and our firemen down at 7-11, down at the World Trade Center right after it came down. And I saw the greatest people I’ve ever seen in action.”
The Republican presidential front-runner didn’t correct his mistake of naming the convenience store instead of the terror attacks, and the crowd didn’t seem to care.
Trump also said the city’s response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks defines “New York values.”
Prior to his slip up, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan introduced him at the First Niagara Center. In that introduction, Trump called Ryan a great coach “who won championships” in New York. This too was a slip up, as Ryan took the New York Jets to two AFC championship games and lost both before becoming the Bills’ coach last year.
Trump is poised to sweep most of the 95 delegates up for grabs in New York’s Tuesday primary, and is hoping that helps him secure the necessary 1,237 before the GOP convention in July.
