MSNBC continues to be one of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s toughest critics.
“Hillary Clinton is somebody who was for these trade agreements before she became a candidate and now she’s trying to stay neutral,” NBC News’ Chuck Todd said Friday, referring to the White House’s negotiations with Congress over the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Trade Adjustment Assistance deals.
Todd continued, referring to a scheduled campaign stop for Clinton, “But look, there are a bunch of things that I’m curious about. Number one: This is the first time that she has attempted to answer the ‘why?’ question. Why does she want to be president? She never did it in ’07 and ’08 and I think it came back to haunt her.
“The second thing is: She has made a huge pivot to the left. She has flipped on a whole series of issues, if you look at her, actually, over a 10-year span. All the flips towards the progressive side of the aisle. How does she convince Democrats that these are changes of conviction, not changes of convenience?” he asked.
Earlier, on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Bloomberg News’ John Heilemann dinged Clinton for refusing to speak with the press, suggesting that her evasions are because she has no good answers to the questions surrounding her family’s wealth and her tenure as secretary of state.
“I’ve been saying it’s outrageous she is not taking questions from reporters for months,” Heilemann said. “I have said on this show and others that the reason, part of the reason she doesn’t take questions from reporters is because she does not have good answers to give.”
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough added, “She seems to be sending out her husband president as the trial balloon. This is a woman who cannot stand before microphones and answer questions like any other person running for president of the United States. There aren’t good answers that won’t sound bad.”
