Three people have been shot near Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Police Department said Saturday night.
Two of the victims walked into area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds, the police, who remain at the scene and are actively investigating the situation, said. Police originally said four people were shot.
The shooting was reported outside the Third Base Gate, and fans were encouraged to exit via gates in the center field and the right field, the baseball team added.
The gunfire was exchanged between people in two cars, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief, the Associated Press reported. The two people who walked to area hospitals for treatment were in one of the cars, while the third victim was attending the game and struck while standing outside the stadium.
Details of the shooting are unknown as the situation remains active, though authorities say there appears to be no immediate threat to those in the area.
The Washington Nationals say they are working with law enforcement to provide more information once it becomes available.
The baseball team will resume its game against the San Diego Padres Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
