House Speaker Paul Ryan said lawmakers are aiming for an “expansive” infrastructure spending plan in the fiscal 2018 budget in the weeks ahead.
Ryan, R-Wis., said infrastructure is a significant part of the GOP’s 200-day agenda, along with health insurance reform, tax reform and regulatory reform.
“Our goal is to leverage as much as possible,” for infrastructure, Ryan said Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with Republicans.
President Trump has called for $1 trillion infrastructure investment, but GOP leaders aren’t yet committing to a spending level. Ryan said the size of the House GOP plan “is going to be determined by the fiscal space we create” in the budget.
Ryan added that infrastructure spending would not be limited to roads and bridges, but will also include pipelines, Federal Aviation Administration spending and “so many other things.”
Ryan said the GOP budget plan will aim to be “as expansive as we can in regard to infrastructure.”
