Santorum singing with monkey puppet video not Santorum

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum already has a Google problem and, this week, he came about close to having a YouTube problem as well. On Monday, a video entitled “Rick Santorum Sings on Christian Show” was posted online and began making its way around Capitol Hill, being mocked for its absurdity. It was of what looked to be a much younger Santorum singing to a puppet monkey. “I am how I am just how God made me, so I am how I am, I’m the only me,” the Santorum look-alike sang. Well, it turns out, it’s not him — just a convincing doppelganger.

The clip is actually from the late-’80s children’s television show “Quigley’s Village,” which was created by a group of dads to teach children Christian values. The Santorum twin is Rick Carlson, a pastor who played the main character, Mr. Quigley. The puppet? That’s Bubba, a gorilla, who on the “Quigley’s Village” website is said to have a serious addiction to bananas.
