Hill GOP readies for Romney win

Even though the election is more than eight months away, congressional GOP leaders are already laying the groundwork for a Romney presidency and Republican-controlled House and Senate that would swiftly pass major tax reforms including a corporate tax cut to 25 percent, passage of a plan to eventually balance the budget and possibly a new tax cut for all Americans.

“We expect tax reform at the beginning of the Romney administration with a tax cut,” said a GOP insider. What’s more, the planning includes retroactive passage of tax cuts scheduled to expire at the end of the year including the Bush tax cuts.

Several officials called 2012 a “messaging year” because neither the president nor the Democrat-controlled Senate will OK the House budget blueprint. “We need to lay the groundwork this year and get members to vote on our plan. That makes it easier for them and the public to approve it under Romney,” said a key insider.
