The future of war has arrived.
High-tech weapons, real-time connectivity, mini drones and active camouflage. All these tools help make the elite soldiers of this Ghost unit even more deadly.
“Ghost Recon: Future Soldier” utilizes amazing battlefield technologies and a frenetic pace to draw players in. A third-person shooter, this game also makes use of first-person views when aiming down a weapon’s sight. The two most interesting gadgets that you’ll get your hands on are a sensor grenade that shows where nearby enemies are (even if they’re hidden) and the prototype digital active camouflage that makes you nearly invisible when keeping a low profile (it stops working when moving quickly or firing weapons).
“Future Soldier” drops you into a Ghost team as the unit is sent to hunt down a weapons trafficking ring. The lengthy campaign takes you from South America to Africa, Europe and Russia. It’s a dark tale with lots of geopolitical intrigue, and it’s set off by witty writing and impeccable voice acting that makes you feel a very personal connection to the team members.

You’ll have the most fun when using the “mark and execute” function. It allows you to tell your teammates who to kill, and they’ll coordinate the takedowns based on when you shoot. It’s a great system, but every once in a while your teammates won’t fire when you do, giving away your position to the baddies. Thankfully there is a button to force them to fire.
Shooters like this live or die by the quality of their multiplayer offerings. “Future Soldier” brings a cooperative campaign and a co-op wave-based survival mode. Then there are the competitive modes: Conflict, Decoy, Saboteur, and Siege. Each of these is highly team-based and rewards completing objectives more than just slaughtering the other team. The lack of a true deathmatch mode could turn off some gamers, but each of these offerings is quite entertaining — just make sure to bring friends.
The latest “Ghost Recon” is a solid shooter that offers a lot of nifty ideas, but only time will tell how well this game is received.
