After the horrific shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado last month, anti-gun activists have doubled down to politicize the tragedy and capitalize on their anti-gun control agenda. But where is Hollywood in all of this, and who’s really to blame?
Gun control activists deny the influence of Hollywood movies that glorify and celebrate gun violence; blockbusters such as In The Line Of Fire, Die Hard 2, No Country For Old Men, Shooter, and practically every James Bond movie glamorizie violence. But is Hollywood culpable when mass shootings occur?
Why can’t the liberal media speak about James Holmes? After all, Holmes told the police he was in fact “the Joker,” Batman’s violent antagonist. What made James Holmes commit these horrific murders? Is there a connection between Hollywood, the desire to be infamous, and mass shootings?
Let me clear: I don’t blame Hollywood any more than I blame the gun. I blame the person for the crime. But perhaps it’s time gun control activists began pointing the finger at places other than peaceful, law-abiding, 2nd amendment respecting citizens. Perhaps they should invest some of their time investigating an entertainment world that promotes a culture of violence while demonizing values of family and faith.
The corruption and contradiction in Hollywood is rampant, andyet liberals just can’t sacrifice those generous endorsements and big checks from Hollywood by dare pointing a finger in their direction as the possible inspiration for this horrific shooting.
It’s ironic, yet not surprising that former senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT), now head of the Motion Picture Association of America, instantly came out for tighter gun restrictions in response to the Colorado shooting. “It’s a national tragedy,” he said. “It happened there, but it could have happened anywhere, regretfully.”
But who’s to blame? Is it the gun? Hollywood? Batman’s glamorized villain, The Joker?? Liberals should stop blaming the most obvious, yet misguided quick fix: the gun. After all, it’s harder to fix a culture that has broken down values system and even harder to call out the most generous liberal beneficiaries (Hollywood activists) on their contradictory platforms.
Hollywood may glamorize gun violence and even desensitize us to murder as a way of problem solving, but like the gun itself, Hollywood cannot be blamed for the actions of James Holmes. Only Holmes bears the full weight and responsibility of the lives he took and havoc he wreaked.
