Newt Gingrich pays homage to Japan’s ‘professional brilliance and technological power’ at Pearl Harbor

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Wednesday seemingly paid homage to Japan’s “professional brilliance and technological power” for the country’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor exactly 75 years ago.

“December 7 is a good day to remember that the world is dangerous, and shattering surprise is possible even when we have been warned,” Gingrich tweeted.

His comments came on the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the Navy’s Pacific Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, which led to the United States entering World War II.

“[Seventy-five] years ago the Japanese displayed professional brilliance and technological power launching surprises from Hawaii to the Philippines,” Gingrich continued. “Japanese planning and training let them also carry out surprise attacks in Hong Kong and Malaysia. It was widest surprise attack in history.”

He made no mention of the more than 2,400 Americans killed during the attack, nor the decades-long security alliance between the U.S. and Japan.
