Oakton coach Pat Purcell immediately picked up on the silver lining after the Cougars’ loss to Stone Bridge in last weekend’s Northern Region final.
“After we’ve lost, we’ve always won at least three in a row, and we’ve never lost two in a row,” said Purcell, knowing one more streak of that length would mean a state title.
Freshmen Callie Eward and Cristina Cafiero have sparked the Cougars’ postseason run, but tonight’s game will be a veteran pitching duel between Oakton senior Jesse McCarrick and Hanover senior Kristen Bruce, who allowed two hits and struck out 11 in the Central Region final.
