House Speaker Paul Ryan began airing his first local television campaign ad on Tuesday, promoting his role in the Republican agenda written without the input or full support of Donald Trump.
Ryan, who represents Wisconsin’s 1st District, has been touting the GOP “Better Way” agenda for months. The ad shows Ryan talking to voters about the platform of six issues, which include tax reform, welfare reform, bolstering national security and helping the economy.
In the ad, Ryan points to polling that shows 70 percent of the country believes the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction.
Ryan makes no reference to Trump, adhering to a pledge he made to Republicans this month that he would no longer defend Trump or campaign alongside him.
Instead, the advertisement, which will air in the Madison and Milwaukee areas Ryan represents, focuses on what the Republican Party in Congress plans to do.
“We are rolling out a series of reforms to show the country what it is going to take to get us working again,” Ryan says in the ad.
