Even after a six-alarm fire destroyed their office, the Casey Cares Foundation never stopped helping others.
“The fire destroyed everything. We were rubble,” said Pam Goode, the Foundation?s Communications Director. “When our families started calling us to see how they could help, we realized this is nothing compared to what they go through each and every day.”
Casey Cares is a nonprofit organization that provides programs to critically ill children and their families. Founded in 2000 by Casey Baynes, the organization is headquartered in Baltimore.
The fire in June resulted in the loss of their offices, recordsand contacts. The organization is reaching out to local businesses and community groups for donations to their Holiday Giving Program. Casey Cares funds four separate programs for kids 18 and under.
“We have this every year, but unfortunately, our contacts were lost, so we are starting from scratch,” Goode said.
“Companies can sponsor different programs, or they can do things like a Jeans Day. The more creative, the better,” Goode said. “The end result is donations so we can continue to help the children.”
Johns Hopkins Children?s Center Social Worker Nancy Huslage put it best in her letter to the foundation: “Your gifts speak volumes and create wonderful, lasting memories.”
Casey Cares has accepted donations from various companies since the fire, but have also continued to help Maryland families in need.
“We have not missed a beat,” Goode said. “Anyone that has called since our fire, we have not disappointed.”
