Hillary Clinton hopes to strike terror into the hearts of readers with the release of her new book.
The former secretary of state is teaming up with bestselling author Louise Penny to write a fictional thriller about a secretary of state who joins the administration of her rival and is subsequently faced with a series of terrorist attacks. Simon & Schuster, which will jointly publish the book along with St. Martin’s Press on Oct. 12, called the book a “high-stakes thriller of international intrigue” in its press release.
“When we read Louise Penny and Hillary Clinton’s outline for State of Terror, it was immediately clear that when an ingenious novelist goes to work with one of the world’s most knowledgeable leaders, the results are kinetic,” said Simon & Schuster President and CEO Jonathan Karp and CEO of Macmillan Trade Publishers Don Weisberg in a joint statement. “We are delighted to be part of this exciting publishing relationship, and we expect State of Terror to thrill legions of readers throughout the world.”
AFTER PROMISING ETHICAL ADMINISTRATION, BIDEN PUSHES BOUNDARIES WITH SON HUNTER’S BOOK
Penny said it was an “incredible experience” to get “inside the State Department, inside the White House, [and] inside the mind of the secretary of state as high stake crises explode.”
Clinton also celebrated the partnership, calling working with Penny “a dream come true.”
“I’ve relished every one of her books and their characters as well as her friendship,” Clinton said.
Clinton wrote a memoir titled What Happened in 2017, documenting her election loss to President Donald Trump in 2016 and how she “found the strength to pick herself back up afterwards.” That memoir was also published by Simon & Schuster.
The New York-based publishing giant has attracted controversy for publishing decisions that some argue were politically charged. While the company went forward with plans to publish Hunter Biden’s book despite concerns of ethical conflicts, it reneged on its agreement to publish Sen. Josh Hawley’s book on Big Tech censorship in the wake of the Missouri Republican’s objection to the certification of President Biden’s 2020 election victory.
“After witnessing the disturbing, deadly insurrection that took place on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Simon & Schuster has decided to cancel publication of Senator Josh Hawley’s forthcoming book, The Tyranny of Big Tech,” Simon & Schuster said at the time. ” As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: at the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley.”

Shortly thereafter, Hawley reached a new arrangement with Regnery Publishing, a conservative publishing house that will release the book in the spring.
Representatives for the Clinton Foundation did not immediately reply to the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment.
