WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Raley’s labor negotiations continued into the early hours Sunday as the supermarket chain and its labor union tried to avoid a strike.
The Sacramento Bee reports (http://sacb.ee/TpVben ) that negotiators worked past the midnight Saturday deadline set by Raley’s.

The United Food and Commercial Workers say the existing labor contract was being extended on an hour-to-hour basis at the request of the federal mediator.
The two sides began meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the third day of extensive bargaining aimed at heading off the first strike in Raley’s 77-year history.
If an agreement isn’t reached, union workers at the grocer’s 128 stores in Northern California and Nevada could walk off the job.
The two sides are at odds over a proposed wage freeze, elimination of premium pay for Sunday shifts and health care benefits.
