Mancharged in online threats set for mental exam An Arlington man accused of making threats on Facebook to set off bombs around the District, including in the Metro system, has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. Awais Younis was charged last week with making threatening communications. In federal court in Alexandria on Tuesday, a judge ordered him to remain in custody pending the evaluation.

According to an affidavit, Younis — who also goes by Sundullah “Sunny” Ghilzai and Mohhanme Khan — made the bomb threats in Facebook chat messages. Authorities were alerted by a person he communicated with on the social-networking site.

Court documents say Younis described how to build a pipe bomb and advocated placing bombs on the third and fifth cars of Metro trains because they “had the highest number of commuters on them and he could place pipe bombs in these locations and would not be noticed.”

report: Crowding persists at Cheltenham

Maryland’s Cheltenham Youth Facility continues to be “severely overcrowded,” according to a new report by the state’s Juvenile Justice Monitoring Unit.

The reports of continued overcrowding and understaffing at the facility come after instructor Hannah Wheeling was killed in February. A student has been charged in her death, and a previous report from the watchdog deemed Cheltenham’s conditions “dangerous” at the time of her slaying.

Cheltenham exceeded its capacity every day in the last quarter, the new report said.

The report also criticizes the facility’s “aged and decrepit” cottages.

Three adults and three children were killed in a fire at a Baltimore row house.

The blaze at the east Baltimore home broke out at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph intensified the flames, the Associated Press reported.

The cause is still under investigation.
