Millennials are dumping beer for wine and big breweries are freaking out

Wine may not be not as cheap as the major beer companies’ products, but it has captured Millennials’ palates.

Young consumers want flavor, and that’s why they’re leaving most mainstream bland beer brands behind, now preferring the taste of wine.

And those who are still beer drinkers prefer craft beer to the big breweries that sell pale ales such as Budweiser, Coors Lite, Miller Lite, Heineken, and Anheuser-Busch.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a recent Budweiser study found that 44 percent of drinkers between the ages of 21 and 27 had never even tried its brand of beer.

That number is startling given that Budweiser produces the No. 1 and No. 3 most popular beers in America, according to The Huffington Post.

Given the availability and price of Budweiser and other major brands at most sporting events, concerts, and outdoor events, Millennials are making a conscious decision to snub their noses at the big breweries.

Sales are down significantly from the Budweiser’s peak in 1988, from 50 million barrels annually to 16 million this year.
