Trump: Border wall will provide ‘99.9 percent stoppage’

President Trump touted his plans to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Thursday that he expected a wall to provide “99.9 percent stoppage.”

“I’m talking about a real wall. I’m talking about a wall that’s got to be like, serious,” Trump said.

“And even that, of course, you’ll have people violate it. But we’ll have people waiting for them when they do.”

Trump touted his pick for secretary of homeland security, Gen. John Kelly, who was sworn in earlier this week.

The president signed an executive order providing for the construction of a border wall while visiting Department of Homeland Securty headquarters on Wednesday.

“Look, the wall is necessary,” Trump said.

“That’s not just politics, and yet it is good for the heart of the nation in a certain way because people want protection. And a wall protects. All you have to do is ask Israel. They were having a total disaster coming across and they had a wall. It’s 99.9 percent stoppage.”

Although physical barriers already exist along sections of the border between the U.S. and Mexico, Trump said they do not provide adequate security against illegal immigration and activity.

“A proper wall, not a wall that’s this high like they have now,” Trump said of his planned wall project.

“They have little toy walls. I don’t know why they even wasted their time. If you ever saw where they build the little ramp over the, I don’t even know why they build a ramp, it’s cheaper to knock it over.”
