BOUNCE BACK: Germany’s Commerzbank said profit in the second quarter jumped from a year ago, when it took losses on Greek bonds. But some parts of the business were hit by Europe’s troubles.

WARNING: The bank said profit will decline in the second half of the year because of a rough economy and the European debt crisis. Germany’s economy is slowing and some economists are even predicting that it may fall into recession.

STRONG BASE: The bank said it was in good shape to meet challenging market conditions, as it continues to shed risky investments and boost its financial reserves.
