Howard County exec to sign green legislation

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman today is expected to sign into law the package of green building legislation.

The County Council passed an amended version of the package that establishes standards for commercial construction and incentives for achieving higher levels of environmentally friendly standards.

The bills will take effect Oct. 7, but the measure calling for compliance to nationally accepted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards will not apply until July 1, 2008.

Members of the council and Commission on the Environment and Sustainability will join Ulman this morning to sign what the administration called “first-of-its-kind” legislation.
