Bill Nye the Science Guy is now a political activist and anti-GOPer. Nye recently offered some advice for Republicans when speaking to The Huffington Post at the Reason Rally:
In a speech, Nye also said that “climate denial is generational” and that “very few young people embrace these silly ideas.”
Nye has criticized the stance of many Republicans on climate change before, and mentioned how concerning Trump has become. The Huffington Post was all too happy to run with Nye’s words to add their own unrelated criticism of Trump about his comments toward Judge Gonzalo Curiel of the Trump University case.
Sarah Palin inserted herself into the discussion in April, saying he’s “as much a scientist as I am” after Nye said that “climate deniers” and energy CEOs belong in jail like war criminals.
Climate change is an issue young people care about, which others have taken advantage of. Billionaire Tom Steyer previously said they “never have a budget” when it comes to voter turnout and electing those who share his view on climate change. He too has criticized Republicans.
More recently, Steyer said his super PAC NextGen Climate Action will spend $25 million to target millennials.
With the concern millennials have for the environment and climate change, perhaps some in the GOP will rethink the issue to win over young voters. It’s unlikely , though, that they’ll suddenly do so because of Bill Nye.
