Hoyas’ guard Wright is likely done for the year

It appears that Georgetown freshman guard Chris Wright (St. John’s College High) injured his ankle two games too late. He was essentially ruled out for the remainder of season by head coach John Thompson III on Thursday.

“In my head I have to proceed as if he’s not going to be back,” said Thompson. “If he does, then he is, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. We made the decision, along with his family, to be overly cautious.”

Players can take a medical redshirt before a third of the standard 30-game season is complete. Wright appeared in Georgetown’s first 11 games, averaging 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds, before rolling his ankle in practice three weeks ago, ahead of the Hoyas’ first Big East contest.

During his rehabilitation Wright suffered a recurrence of symptoms connected to foot surgery he underwent prior to the season after breaking his foot in a September pick-up game. He has missed Georgetown’s last six games.

Thompson also said he is considering redshirting freshman Nikita Mescheriakov, who was suspended for the first 10 games of the year and has yet to make an appearance.
