A top staffer at the Republican National Committee said he agrees that Sen. Ted Cruz’s speech to the GOP convention Wednesday night makes him an “a——-e.”
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told reporters Wednesday night that he thinks Cruz is an “a——-e.” And when asked about that comment on Thursday, chief RNC strategist Sean Spicer said, “I’d probably use the same verbiage.”

“I think that it is disappointing when somebody who is a leader in the conservative movement, who knows what’s at stake,” Spicer said of the speech, noting that Cruz should know what’s at stake more than anybody else.
Cruz should have not just spoken if he wanted to give such controversial remarks, Spicer explained. “He could have just said, ‘I’m not coming, I don’t feel comfortable,'” he said.
And no, King doesn’t necessarily need to apologize for calling him an “a——-e,” Spicer said.
“I’ll let him speak for himself,” Spicer said of King’s “colorful” New York language.
King allegedly told some reporters Wednesday that Cruz was an “a——-e” for his speech at the convention, in which he refused to endorse nominee Donald Trump and told voters to “vote your conscious.”
