Details emerge on possible amendments to autism funding bill

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is going down to the wire in acting on legislation that would extend insurance coverage to autistic children ages 2 to 6. And more details are starting to emerge on some of the tweaks he’s considering.

McDonnell is reportedly weighing amendments that would delay the date the bill would take effect by six months to July 1, 2012, and tighten eligibility for smaller employers.

He is also mulling a change that would void the law if a court negates a $35,000 annual cap on benefits, and require Board of Medicine licensure for some autism treatment providers, according to the AP.

He has until midnight Tuesday to act on legislation approved by the General Assembly this year.
