John Kennedy calls on William Barr to investigate leaks from Mueller’s team

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., on Wednesday urged Attorney General William Barr to include special counsel Robert Mueller’s team in his widespread leak probe.

“When you are investigating leaks at the Department of Justice and the FBI, I hope you will include the Mueller team as well,” Kennedy told Barr during the attorney general’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

While Barr has already indicated he wants to examine the genesis of the FBI’s counterintelligence inquiry into President Trump’s 2016 campaign, Kennedy said he would also like more information about what triggered a separate counterintelligence investigation into Hillary Clinton and her team. The Louisiana Republican additionally encouraged Barr to disclose “all the documents and the FBI and the Justice Department pertaining to the 2016 election,” with national security information redacted.

“Just release it, instead of us going through this spin and innuendo and leaks and rumors. Let’s just let the American people see them,” he said.

Kennedy’s call comes a day after a news story revealed Mueller complained last month to Barr that his four-page memo about the special counsel’s report on the federal Russia probe “did not fully capture the context” of his findings.

Barr was asked to testify before the Senate panel to answer for how he handled the public dissemination of Mueller’s report.
