Rod Rosenstein shuts down Jim Jordan in fiery hearing: ‘There is no way to subpoena phone calls’

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein corrected Rep. Jim Jordan, R–Ohio, during a tense hearing on Thursday, which resulted in a wave of chuckles in the room.

Jordan was quoting a media report when he asked Rosenstein if he threatened to subpoena calls and emails.

“No sir, and there is no way to subpoena phone calls,” Rosenstein replied, which was met with laughter from observers of the hearing.

Jordan again asked if Rosenstein had made the threat, insisting that he was just quoting what the press had reported.

“Well, I would suggest that you don’t rely on what the press says,” Rosenstein quipped.

Rosenstein was testifying before the House Judiciary Committee in a hearing on “Oversight of FBI and DOJ Actions Surrounding the 2016 Election” when he made the comments.
