Massachusetts store pulls plug on Sean Spicer book tour event: Report

A Massachusetts BJ’s Wholesale Club has reportedly pulled the plug on a book signing event Saturday for former White House press secretary and communications director Sean Spicer.

Spicer’s memoir, The Briefing, was released Tuesday and Spicer is participating in more than 20 events to promote the book. But his publisher says the BJ’s Wholesale Club in Seekonk, Mass., cut their scheduled event with Spicer, citing the “political climate.”

“We got word last Friday the store was canceling ‘due to the political climate,’’’ a spokesperson for Regnery Publishing said, per Fox News. “Of course, we were very disappointed, but also surprised since we have had such a terrific response to all of the other events we have scheduled around the country.”

However, mixed messages on whether the event is still happening appear to be confusing people.

“After two different reporters called the store today to find out why the event had been canceled, we received a note from corporate saying they wanted to proceed as originally planned,” the Regnery spokesperson said. “However there seems to be some confusion because the store is still telling people who call that the event has been canceled.”

According to Fox News, the store said Tuesday afternoon that the event had been axed and that the corporate office would need to be the one to provide a reason for the cancellation. However, various officials did not respond to media requests from Fox News.

Spicer resigned as White House press secretary in July 2017.
