Fidel es muerto?
Last week’s rumors of Fidel Castro’s death remain just that: rumors.
But that doesn’t mean thatthe buzz didn’t afford us an opportunity to see the types of reactions we’d see when Castro truly does kick the bucket.
Take, for instance, the College Republicans at America’s most prestigious university: Harvard.
When word spread that Castro may have passed, one college GOPer sent a note to the GOP group saying, “Party plans, anyone? I suggest Fidel piñatas. Viva Cuba libre …”
Wrote another: “If this is true, the Republican Club can certainly chip in to buy a few piñatas and maybe an effigy for our first party of the year.
Viva Cuba Libre and maybe someday, Viva China Libre …”
But hold on — one Republican was looking toward the future of the party: “I have a feeling that abusing effigies will not very effectively convey the kindlier, gentler, big-tent image that the Republican Club is trying to [effect].”
