Pelosi: Democrats can’t work with Trump on anything

BALTIMORECongressional Democrats will not be able to work with President Trump on any legislation if he continues to govern like he has for the first three weeks of his presidency, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said here Wednesday.

“Three weeks in the White House has revealed that President Trump is exactly who we thought he was — incompetent and, in some cases in terms of our national security, dangerous,” Pelosi told reporters at the start of the Democratic retreat. “He’s perpetuating a massive con on those who thought he would stand up from against powerful interests.”

“As long as the president continues down this path, there is nothing Democrats can work with him on,” Pelosi said. “To protect the security of our nation, the future of our working families, and the sanctity of our Constitution, Democrats will fight this administration every day with every fiber of our being.”

Pelosi listed issues like Trump’s push to repeal Obamacare as something Democrats would fight, but also said that unless Trump changes, Democrats also can’t work with him on issues where there is more common ground, like infrastructure and trade.

The longtime California Democrat argued that instead of keeping his promise and putting “American values first,” he is more focused on helping Wall Street and repealing the healthcare law.

The House Democratic leader appeared with House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., and vice chairman Linda Sanchez, D-Calif.
