A Bloomberg poll shows Americans frustrated with politics and a desire to get back what the country has lost.

A strong majority of 72 percent thought the United States is falling behind or failing.

Luckily for Donald Trump, that’s a large swath of voters to inspire with his “make America great again” campaign theme.

Another 72 percent agreed with the statement “I am fed up with politics and

politicians—it’s just people playing games.”

A plurality, 37 percent, would like a presidential candidate to be “a government outsider,” all else being equal.

When Bloomberg asked Republican voters whom they supported, 48 percent supported Donald Trump, Ben Carson, or Carly Fiorina, the three Republican candidates who fit the definition.

Despite the pessimism about the greatness of America, 54 percent thought they were moving closer to their hopes for their career or financial standing.

That is key for voters in 2016. While there’s a sense of general decline, voters remains optimistic about the future, and want a candidate to step up and restore America to what they perceive it was and should be.
