House Republicans are up in arms about Stimulus II, and provide this helfpul chart to show exactly what it will spend and what it means.

House Republicans have argued for streamlining the permit and approval process so that existing infrastructure funding could be put to use more quickly. Democrats have rejected this suggestion.

Transit Assistance & Fixed Guideways: $7.9 Billion

$7.65 Billion (only 13% has currently been spent)

Transportation Capital Investment Grants: $500 Million

$750 Million (only 53% has currently been spent)

Amtrak: $800 Million

$1.3 Billion (only 13% has currently been spent)

Airports: $500 Million

$1.1 Billion (only 36% has currently been spent)

Housing Trust Fund Established by Barney Frank: $1.065 Billion

No funds were included for the Barney Frank Housing Trust Fund in the original stimulus

Potential ACORN Funding: Concerns have been raised that this fund could be used to fund ACORN. The prohibition in the recently passed Omnibus would not apply to the funds in this bill.

Improvement to Public Housing: $1 Billion

Education Jobs Fund (aka State Stabilization Fund): $23 Billion

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund: $53.6 Billion (only 31% has currently been spent)

The funds already provided for teachers are available for 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Grants for School Construction: $4.1 Billion (Provision would provide grants equal to the cost of tax credits that would otherwise be payable on bonds issued to finance school construction, rehabilitation or repair.

Dept of Labor Employment Training: $1.25 Billion of which $500 million is for summer jobs for youth

$3.95 Billion ($1.2 Billion was for summer jobs for youth)

 

Energy Innovation Loan Program: $2 Billion

The original stimulus provided $6 Billion, but that amount was reduced by $2 billion (same amount as is now being proposed) in August to pay for the extension of “Cash for Clunkers”

Interior Dept Programs (BLM, Fish and Wildlife, Park Service): $100 Million

$436 Million (only 7% has currently been spent)

 

Bureau of Reclamation Water Projects: $100 Million

$1 Billion (only 8% has been currently spent)

 

Forest Systems & Wildfires: $170 Million

$515 Million

Nearly $3 million of the original funds were provided to Washington, D.C. despite the fact that the capital city has no national forests.

I’m thrilled about the DC forest fire funds, by the way. The traffic circle two blocks from my house happens to be a national park.
