Suspect sought in 2 Va. bank robberies

Authorities are looking for the man responsible for robbing two Northern Virginia banks in less than a week. The FBI says that one man is believed to have robbed a BB&T Bank in Arlington on Dec. 14, then held up a Bank of America in Alexandria on Dec. 20. In the Arlington heist, the man entered the bank, located at 2947 South Glebe Road, at about 2:15 p.m. and demanded cash, according to the FBI.

He obtained an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot.

The website ARLnow.com reported shortly after the incident that nearby Gunston Middle School and Oakridge Elementary School were briefly locked down following the robbery.

The Alexandria robbery occurred at the Bank of America located at 600 North Washington Street shortly before 3 p.m.

The man entered the bank, implied he had a weapon and demanded money, Alexandria police said.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled.

No one was injured in either incident. The suspect did not display a weapon.

The suspect is described as a black man who is about 40 to 45 years old. He is about 6-feet to 6-feet-4 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. An FBI lookout for the suspect says he has worn a blue puffy winter coat, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, a scarf over his face, a winter hat and dark pants.
