The danger posed by Steve Bannon serving on the National Security Council has been averted, cheered Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine on Wednesday.
“The country is safer with Steven Bannon not on the National Security Council,” the lawmaker from Virginia said on MSNBC.
“It was a huge mistake to put him on not only because the chief political adviser in the White House has not been a member of the NSC under Democratic or Republican institutions, you shouldn’t mix politics with national security.”
Bannon, still the chief strategist in the White House, was removed from his controversial spot on President Trump’s National Security Council, it was revealed Wednesday.
Democrats breathed a collective sigh of relief, though some, like the Congressional Progressive Caucus want the allegedly “white supremacist” Bannon removed from the White House completely.
Kaine echoed their concerns about Bannon’s past.
“This is a guy connected with organizations that have strong ties to white supremacy, to anti-semitism,” Kaine said.
“He’s talked about one of his favorite books that is a French novel that talks about the end of the white world, that is the subtext text of the book. This is an individual any involvement in national security matters is very troubling.”
Referring to how former the “dangerous” Trump national security adviser Mike Flynn was replaced by “very solid” H.R. McMaster, Kaine said “it’s important Steve Bannon be moved aside in that role as well.”
