BENTON, Ill. (AP) — A West Frankfort man has been found fit to stand trial in the alleged murder of his wife.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1wwj5r7 ) that Franklin County Judge Jerry Crisel ordered John P. Adams to appear for a pre-trial conference Sept. 3 after reviewing a fitness evaluation.
The 66-year-old Adams is charged with two counts of murder in the April 1 shooting of his wife, Kendra, who died the next day.
Adams initially told police he found his 52-year-old wife — who had a gunshot wound in the back of her head — unresponsive in their residence. But authorities claim Adams later confessed to the shooting.
A gun officials say is consistent with the type of injury Kendra Adams suffered was recovered from the house.
