Fees for D.C. parking permits, drivers’ licenses and registrations will rise in two weeks, the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles said Monday.
And although the planners of Thursday’s Car Free Day may enjoy the coincidental timing, the change isn’t a plot to get drivers to ditch their cars altogether. The increase has been planned for a while as part of the city’s initiatives to close its budget gap, according to the DMV.
Parking permits will climb $20, from $15 to $35, starting on Oct. 1. (Senior citizens will only have to pay $25, though.)
Other fees are also rising, the DMV reports. Changing addresses or getting duplicate licenses, learners permits, registrations will rise from $7 to $20.
