A little girl is alive after her father jumped with her onto the tracks of an oncoming train in the Bronx borough of New York City.
The 45-year-old man had picked up his daughter and jumped onto the tracks where the train struck and killed him on Monday, according to ABC 7. His 5-year-old daughter made it out of the incident with minor scratches.
After the man jumped, bystanders attempted to wave down the train as it entered the station, though the train could not stop in time. While the father was hit by the train, his daughter found a safe place between the tracks.
Video has surfaced of witnesses to the accident down on the tracks helping the little girl out from under the train and back onto the platform. People on the platform comforted the girl until emergency responders arrived and transported her to the hospital.
Witnesses say the man was calm prior to jumping and having a conversation on his cellphone.
“I heard him telling the wife that, ‘You look out for the other two kids, I’m gonna take her to school,’ and then he said, ‘I love you,'” said Pamela Ivy, who witnessed the incident.
