Hillary Clinton talks revenge porn: ‘I’m Exhibit A’

Hillary Clinton addressed a topic on Tuesday night that she does not normally discuss at town halls: revenge porn.

Christie Chambers, a member of the audience at a Los Angeles town hall for digital content creators asked the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee what she thought about revenge porn and what legal actions could be taken to punish offenders.

Chambers, a YouTube personality who had run a channel with her ex-girlfriend, explained that her former lover had released videos of sexual encounters between the two following their break-up. Chambers asked Clinton what she would do as president to ensure individuals who leak footage can be prosecuted for digital privacy invasion.

Clinton was visibly startled, starting her response first with praise for Chambers’ bravery to publicly admit what had happened to her.

The former first lady admitted she has been the victim of embarrassing public affairs, but did not mention her husband, Bill, and his relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky in the 1990s.

“Is there gonna be bad stuff? I’m Exhibit A. But when it becomes dangerous we have to do what we can to stop it,” Clinton said, though there is no known revenge porn of the Democratic candidate on the Internet.

“I’ll do everything I can as president to figure out how we can give victims like you tools and protect yourself and others,” Clinton said. “I’ll look to all of you — bullying online, revenge porn, cyber stalking — all too common, ruins lives, leads people to lose confidence, depression, suicide.”

She applauded the crowd for using social media to encourage one another in hard times, but did not lay out details for how she would thwart revenge porn offenders.
