Dr. Mehmet Oz gave his perspective on what quarantined couples should do as the coronavirus continues to spread.
Oz was questioned by a TMZ reporter on Tuesday about how quarantined individuals can avoid depression while remaining at home for several weeks.
“Well, we found from China is that people get really depressed when they’re quarantined, which you never thought about as an issue,” Oz said, encouraging others to pick up hobbies, read, or learn a language.
The reporter then asked him what couples should do given recent health experts encouraging “social distancing.”
“The best solution, if you’re holed up with your significant other, quarantined, is have sex,” Oz said. “You’ll live longer, get rid of the tension, certainly get some stories. Maybe you’ll make some babies. It’s certainly better than staring at each other and getting on each others’ nerves.”
“If you are both quarantined, you both have the virus, and you’re both healthy, go ahead. There’s no harm in having sex. It’s probably better for you than not having sex.”
COVID-19 cases have appeared on every continent except Antarctica. Nearly 196,000 people have tested positive for the virus around the world, with more than 80,000 recovering and 7,800 having died.
