Protesters gathered outside of acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf’s house to demonstrate against his role in sending federal agents into Portland, Oregon, and other cities.
A group of about 30 came out in Alexandria, Virginia, on Sunday, chanting Black Lives Matter slogans and demanding the removal of federal officers from of cities facing an uproar of violent unrest. The Washington Post described the group as “mostly white people, young and old” in bicycle jerseys and tie-dyed shirts.
The secretary was reportedly not home at the time of the demonstration. His house was protected by three law enforcement officers, and some of the protesters were escorted by a city police car.
Wolf’s neighbor, Rebecca Loesberg, set up a table with snacks and water for the demonstrators.
“I think it’s an embarrassment and terrorism in this country at the hands of the government,” Loesberg told the Washington Post.

Wolf defended his decision to deploy agents earlier Sunday on Fox News and said protesters coming to his house is just another way of doxxing people they disagree with.
“Our officers in Portland every night are targeted,” Wolf said. “Their personal information is on the Internet, put out there by these criminals, by these anarchists. They’re identified. Their families are harassed. They go where they’re staying. The doxxing is prolific, and we’re trying to address that. And of course, we see them trying to do that to myself. We’ll continue to do our job. We’ll not be deterred by this.”
The federal government have been sending in law enforcement officers to assist local agencies quell the violence that’s been seen across several major cities in the country. Unrest began after George Floyd’s May death in police custody and has continued to escalate from peaceful to violent.
