The Huffington Post has invited a number of notable political commentators to chew over this question: “Should The Dems Love White Guys, Or Dump Them?” The consensus seems to be that writing off fully a third of eligible voters would be unwise, though there was some dissent. Thomas Schaller, a professor at the University of Maryland, explained:
And Michael Tomasky, editor-at-large for the American Prospect, wouldn’t urge Democrats to actually make any substantive policy changes in order to bolster their support among white males, but he would have Democrats act a little more…manly?
Who could Tomasky possibly have in mind with a description like that? But look at the HuffPolitics reporters in the right hand column. Notice anything? I wonder if Arianna has pondered the implications of dumping white male reporters as well….
