Sources: Jeb Bush, Derek Jeter win bid to purchase Miami Marlins

Welp, looks like we can officially call the “Marlins” the “Marlins!”

According to Bloomberg, the coalition of former Republican presidential candidate Jeb(!) Bush and former New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter have won an auction to purchase the Miami Marlins.

While the price of the team has not yet been disclosed, bidding amounts were rumored to range from $1.2-1.3 billion. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria bought the team in 2002 for $158 million.

This is welcome news for fans of other teams in baseball, particularly in the NL East, as many Mets, Braves, Nats, and Phillies fans can use Trump’s insults of Jeb Bush during the 2016 Republican primary to mock the Marlins. Instead of referring to the Marlins as “Fish,” they’ll be “Low Energy Fish.” When the Marlins play away games, every time they get on base, the jumbotron can flash a sign in big bold letters, “PLEASE CLAP.”

It’s an exciting time to be Jeb Bush and an even better time to root for the team playing the Marlins.
