Poll: Clinton wins on knowledge, temperament, likability, integrity

A Fox News poll released late Thursday found 71 percent of all likely voters believe Clinton has the knowledge to serve effectively as president, likely due to her experience as first lady, New York senator and as secretary of state during President Obama’s first term.

In contrast, just 38 percent think the same of Donald Trump, and 59 percent said Trump would not know how to govern.

In the June 5-8 poll, Clinton won again in the area of temperament, as 60 percent of Republicans, Democrats and independents think she has the disposition to be commander in chief. A net 38 percent said she lacked this characteristic. Exactly one-third of those polled said Trump had the composure to lead America while 62 percent disagreed.

“While many voters find their choices odorous, they see stark choices — a knowledgeable, qualified candidate or one with the wrong temperament who will shake things up,” Democratic pollster Chris Anderson said in a statement. “It says a lot about the country that the race is so close right now, but it is hard to imagine it stays like that into the fall unless Trump can convince voters he will keep his cool as president.”

Trump closed in on Clinton in the likability category. Clinton netted 47 percent from voters who said they had a positive view of her and Trump took in 39 percent.

A net 44 percent said Clinton has the integrity to serve as effectively as president while 54 percent said no. Trump garnered 38 percent of support on this question, but 58 percent said he lacked the integrity necessary for the job.

Trump now trails Clinton by three points in a hypothetical match-up in November, a reversal of the three-point advantage Trump had had over Clinton in May.
