Texas Sen. Ted Cruz celebrated the Republican Party’s hold on blue-collar voters ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
“The Democratic Party has abandoned the working class, has abandoned union members, and the GOP has become the blue-collar party of jobs,” Cruz tweeted Saturday night.

The Texas senator was responding to analysis from Democratic presidential candidate-turned-CNN pundit Andrew Yang.
“They do not think Democrats speak to them,” Yang said of the working class, later adding, “We have to solve these underlying economic issues that have been festering and building up in our communities for years and decades that got Donald Trump elected.”
Trump is expected to tout a strong economy and rely on votes from working-class people in key states in the Midwest to earn reelection this fall. 2020 Democratic front-runner Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, however, may present a challenge to the president’s securing the working-class vote as he fights against “oligarchs” in America.
