For the first time, Bernie Sanders acknowledged he is unlikely to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
“It doesn’t appear that I’m going to be the nominee so I’m not going to be determining the scope of the convention,” Sanders said when asked if he wanted a speaking role there in July. Although Clinton reached the necessary 2,382 delegates to secure the nomination in early June, Sanders remains in the race in the hopes of influencing the party’s platform.
“Where we are right now is what we are trying to do, which is no secret to anybody is to create the most progressive platform we possibly can … and second of all we are trying to do nothing less than transforming the Democratic Party,” he said.
When asked about his conversations with Clinton about the party platform Sanders responded that they were “very good.” Sanders also called out the “corporate media” for focusing on gossip rather than policy issues.
“Let’s talk about Donald Trump, oh my goodness, dah, dah, dah,” he said, mimicking the media. “Let’s talk about Hillary Clinton, bah, bah, bah. Let’s talk about Bernie Sanders, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah.”
Although Clinton will officially be named the nominee in July, Sanders isn’t releasing his delegates beforehand.
