Arresting developments in Cincinnati

Just in time for the NFL to resume operations, the Cincinnati Bengals are rounding into form — the kind of form appropriate for a team that lost 10 games in a row last year, a season after going 10-6.

Even before reports that running back Cedric Benson was arrested early Sunday morning on an assault charge — putting his pending free agency into some jeopardy since he could be subject to punishment by the league — the Bengals were showing midseason dysfunctional form. Just last week, cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest outside a Cincinnati bar.

On Sunday afternoon, wide receiver Chad Ochocinco got into the act, backing up claims that quarterback Carson Palmer would retire if he doesn’t get traded out of Cincinnati.

“He is dead serious kind sir.i spoke with him,” Ochocinco tweeted.

The lockout may be close to resolution, but the Bengals’ problems appear to have no end in sight.
