Rubio: Senate has votes to overturn refugee bill veto

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., told the Kelly File Thursday night he is confident the Senate could get enough Democratic support to overturn President Obama’s veto if the upper chamber passes a bill suspending the resettlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in the U.S.

“I think we can get the Democrats, at least four, five, six, seven, eight to come on board,” Rubio said.

Forty-seven House Democrats crossed the aisle Thursday to join Republicans and pass the bill 289-137. The legislation responds to concerns that a terrorist may be able to slip into the country posing as a refugee by requiring FBI background checks and individual approvals by three high-ranking U.S. officials on any admitted refugee.
