Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert to report to prison Wednesday

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert is scheduled to report to prison Wednesday to serve his 15-month sentence for a hush money case stemming from allegations of sexual abuse decades ago.

Hastert, a Republican and once second in line for the presidency, will serve his sentence at a federal medical prison facility in Minnesota. He is the nation’s longest-serving GOP speaker.

His attorney told ABC News’ Chicago affiliate WLS that Hastert has also paid a $250,000 fine and will be under two years of supervised release post-prison.

The 74-year-old was sentenced in April in the Northern District of Illinois after the judge in the case called him a “serial child molester.”

Last year, Hastert admitted his guilt in violating bank laws by making a series of withdrawals totaling 41.7 million to pay off one of the people who was victimized by Hastert. He also admitted that he had lied to FBI agents investigating the case.

During the sentencing, Hastert replied “yes” when asked by Judge Thomas M. Durkin if he had committed sexual abuse. The sexual abuse allegations stem from his time as a teacher and wrestling coach in Yorkville High school some 50 years ago.

The statute of limitations had expired on the sexual abuse allegations, but the victims were still asked to give their stories during sentencing.
