“The View” co-host Meghan McCain ripped into former FBI director James Comey Wednesday for being overtly political in his memoir, A Higher Loyalty, and in comments he’s made promoting the book.
“I don’t want to know your politics. And a lot of the things you’re saying and doing are highly political. And I just don’t understand what you gain trying to sort of clear the deck here,” McCain told Comey during Wednesday’s episode of the ABC daytime talk show.

She evoked a passage in A Higher Loyalty in which Comey, who was a registered Republican for most of his life, tells former President Barack Obama he would miss him once President Trump was inaugurated, while adding he was dreading the next four years of Trump’s term.
McCain also cited Comey’s remarks from earlier Wednesday in which Comey said he wanted to disassociate himself from a “transactional”, “ego-driven” GOP under Trump.
“I’m more interested in what you know about national security. You have to understand how this looks to Republicans, OK?” she said.
“You sound like a political commentator to me,” McCain continued.
Comey pushed back Wednesday, saying he saw his statements as espousing his values rather than his political views or those of his family.
“All we are as a country is a collection of values, and that’s what unites Republicans and Democrats,” he said.
