Hillary begs for more money to fight Trump

Hillary Clinton struck an unusually desperate tone in a fundraising email her campaign sent to supporters late Tuesday, the deadline for May donations.

“With just a few hours to go until the May fundraising deadline, I want to confess something to you: I was wrong,” Clinton wrote. “I was sure that if Trump became the Republican nominee, this team would step up and the support would come pouring in.”

The Democratic presidential candidate admitted her team made financial plans because it had expected to do better as Trump trended among conservatives.

Despite Trump’s becoming the presumptive GOP nominee following Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich dropping out of the race, the Clinton campaign has not reaped what Republicans sowed.

“In fact, we made budgetary plans for the rest of this campaign based on that assumption. Instead, our fundraising has actually slowed down a little bit, and if things don’t change, we’ll have to adjust our plans, and run a smaller, less aggressive campaign — which means that Donald Trump has a chance of beating us.”

Clinton’s team did not state where it expects to finish the month of May. Federal Election Commission reports of those numbers will be made public in the coming weeks.
